GenieTown is the online
marketplace for local services and as the mayor of
GenieTown I want to kick off the Blog that will serve as
GenieTown's "Town Crier". A market place is only as good as the communication in
its community, between those who offer services, those who
look for service providers and those who tend to the market
place.
Many services are hard to find – a good and
reliable contractor, a piano teacher who comes to your
home, a pet sitter who also walks the dogs or help with
cleaning up the basement. We all rely on our friend's
and neighbor's recommendation. But what if your
friend lives 3000 miles away, your neighbors just moved in
and you need someone local now? When you need groceries you
go to the supermarket near your house, for your home
services there’s now an online market place.
That is the idea behind GenieTown.
Many services need to be local – where we live and
work. These services cannot be provided online, someone has
to come to your home to get the job done. We start with
home improvement services and we start locally in the San
Francisco Bay Area. Even before we officially launch the
beta version of GenieTown we already have hundreds of
contractors in a wide range of professions covering most
aspects of home improvement.
We will keep you informed as we build and grow the
GenieTown marketplace and we very much look forward to
hearing from you, about your experience with GenieTown,
your needs for local services and the services you offer.

which areas we build out next. We are a fast growing
start-up in Palo Alto and are developing the platform for
the online marketplace for local services; ultimately the
community needs to take charge and make GenieTown their
