Where does our water come from? The regional water system provides water to people in San Francisco, Santa Clara, Alameda and San Mateo counties. Eighty-five percent of the water comes from Sierra Nevada snowmelt stored in the Hetch Hetchy reservoir situated on the Tuolumne River in Yosemite National Park. How to deal with leaks The biggest concern is big leaks that spew out lots of water. They happen rarely, but they happen. The most important thing is to know where to shut off the water, and to know this before you have an emergency. Where are your on/off valves? Per "appliance" valves - Every water "appliance" (faucet, toilet, water line to fridge ice maker, etc) has an on/off valve typically behind toilets and under sinks).
