What should I expect it to be like?

I know that adding a basement in my home will create more space, but what should I expect from a newly built basement in terms of the look and feel for the place?

One of the best features of a basement is moderate temperatures all year round. It stays cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter because the ground is not subject to the temp variations that are seen above ground.

The space you have "upstairs" should be echoed below, as if the basement was an original part of your home.

Seek, "light, bright, and airy", and remember to have light coming from both ends of the area. Stairwells outdoors that let in a lot of light, and open onto a sunken garden add to the appeal and the resale value.

Demand, and develop a fun imaginative functional space, and think big (think of 10' ceilings).
